Institute of Circuits & Systems

The research and education activities in the Institute of Circuits and Systems(ICAS), Department of Electronic Engineering of Tsinghua University are focused on the fields of analog and digital circuit theory, analysis and design techniques of electronic circuits, analog and digital signal process and application. The institute offers 4 major specialties for undergraduate students, including Fundamentals of Semiconductor Devices, Analysis and Design of Analog Electronic Circuits(EC-THU: The Excellent Curriculum of Tsinghua University), Digital Logic Circuits(EC-THU), and The Principle of Telecommunication Circuits (EC-BJ: The Excellent Curriculum of Beijing), and 6 major specialties for graduate students, including Advanced Analog Integrated Circuits, Structural VLSI Design, Design and Practice of MOS Integrated Circuits, Digital Video and Audio Signal Processing, Analog and Mixed-Signal Systems Design Techniques, and Computer-Aided Design of Digital Circuits and Systems. ICAS gained the key subject awarded from the Ministry of Education in December 2001. The main offices and laboratories are over 900 square meters and located on the eighth and ninth floor of the Weiqing Building, Tsinghua University.

In 2009, ICAS is headed by Professor Huazhong YANG, director, and associate Professor Weibei Dou, vice director.

For the research activities in ICAS in 2009, financial supports are acknowledged of the Ministry of Science and Technology, National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Science and Technology Committee of Beijing. Research activities are also sponsored in part by Voice-On, Microsoft, Intel, AMD, and ST Microelectronics Inc..

The ICAS focus on four research fields:

        - Design Automation for Electronic Circuits Systems
        - Analog & Mixed-Signal Integrated Circuits Design
        - Communication & Digital Media Processing
        - CMOS Radio-Frequency Integrated Circuits

In the field of Chips for Communications and Digital Media Process, research activities include ASIC design for wireless communication, digital broadcasting, and digital media applications, automatic speech recognition. Research activities in the fields of Electronic System Design Automation include low-power design methodology for system-on-chip, joint power and thermal optimization, and reliability modeling and enhancement. Research activities in the fields of Analog and Mixed-Signal Integrated Circuits include analog-to-digital converters, digital-to-analog converters, and low-voltage analog integrated circuits. While research activities in Radio-Frequency and Microwave Integrated Circuits focus on CMOS radio-frequency front-end, digital radio-frequency front-end, and algorithms for microwave transmission line simulation.
