Areas of Research Interests/ Research Projects

(1) Research on 3-D object recognition, to realize 3D object recognition from an arbitrary viewpoint.

(2) Research on system modeling and simulation, to realize 3D object recognition and tracking in jamming environment

(3) Research on psychological base of image cognition, to realize the quantificational measure of human’s psychological features from human’s image cognition process.

 

Research Status

(1) 3-D Object Recognition

Object recognition from an arbitrary viewpoint can be used for huge database object/image search and automatic visual navigation, however it is very challenging. In our research, a graphical model describing structure of various viewpoints was proposed for 3D object shape recognition and image search, and some exciting results on the Princeton 3D Shape Benchmark was derived. A real-world 3D object recognition system with a monoscopic video camera has been built to perform automatic navigating tasks.

(2) System Modeling and Simulation

Multi-object interactional system in real world is too complex to be reconstructed by computer. In our research, an imaging based virtual reality system of object tracking and anti-tracking is established. We have built a photoelectric confrontation simulation system including both seeker and interference was developed to realize 3D object recognition in jamming environment.

(3)Psychological Base of Image Cognition

Psychology is an essential influencing factor of image cognition, however it is difficult to automatically capture and quantificationally analyze by computer. In our research, an image database with psychological semantics, based on Minnesota Multiphase Personality Inventory, was established for psychology test, and significant quantitive features were measured and analyzed by computer. An image-based psychological analysis system has been built to extract human’s psychological features and to study human's image cognition.
