Education background

He received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in physics from Yonsei University, Korea in 1985, 1987, and 1992, respectively. In 1992, he studied carrier dynamics at GaAs/AlGaAs quantum structure as a Post doctor at the Laser Spectroscopy Laboratory, KRISS, Taejon, Korea.

 

 

Experience

In 1992, he joined the Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., Kyungki-Do, Korea, where he is involved in dry etching process development until 1996. Since 1997, he had been engaged in the development of process integration for DRAM.

From 2002, he has led new memory devices, such as PRAM, MRAM and FRAM as a project leader. He received Korean presidential award due to achievement of worldwide leadership of new memories in 2005. And then he has led new memory project as a Vice President in Samsung Semiconductor R&D Center and Memory Business Division. He brought the concept of PRAM, have successfully developed and commercialized world first PRAM product for mobile phone.

He left Samsung in Feb. of 2014 and joined Yonsei Institute of Convergence Technology as a research professor in Korea. In 2016 he joined department of Electronics Engineering and Center for Brain Inspired Computing Research of Tsinghua University in China as a professor.

Research Status

I am focusing on the research listed above in Center for Brain Inspired Computing Research of Tsinghua University which is the one of the most outstanding research centers for artificial intelligence in the world. I am welcoming the outstanding graduate students from not only Chinese but also foreign countries for this research. 

 

 

Honors And Awards

Korean Presidential Award ( 2005 ) for contributing the successful achievement of  new memory devices.

Some best paper awards in academic field and some achievement awards in industrial field.
