INTRODUCTION
Tsinghua University’s Department of Electronic Engineering (EE) cordially invites outstanding students from our global network of partner institutions to apply for a transformative summer program in Beijing. Under the guidance of renowned professors, industry leaders, and innovators, participants will explore how cutting-edge advancements in AI can drive sustainable urban development and foster a harmonious coexistence between humans and their urban environments.


Beyond the classroom, participants will immerse themselves in Beijing’s rich cultural heritage, gaining a profound understanding of China’s historical legacy and its contemporary contributions to global sustainability. This unique program combines academic rigor, hands-on learning, and cultural exploration to inspire the next generation of leaders in technology and sustainable urban innovation.

   

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
This program is designed for highly motivated students, including:

·Pre-final year undergraduate students.

·Masters students pursuing research-oriented degrees.

·Exceptionally talented high school students with a demonstrated, strong interest in STEM fields.

Nomination Path: Applicants must be nominated by one of Tsinghua EE's partner institutions. Please consult with your university's international office or department to confirm your institution's partnership status with the Department of Electronic Engineering, Tsinghua University.

Individual Application Path: A limited number of spots may be available for exceptional individual candidates not from partner institutions. Such candidates must be currently enrolled at an institution and demonstrate an outstanding academic background.

   

PROGRAM ACTIVITIES

1.Academic Training
Engage in lectures, seminars, and hands-on lab sessions led by experts in the field. Key themes include Applications of AI and innovative technologies in urban wellness, healthcare, new energy systems, smart mobility, and urban innovation into urban governance, cultural preservation, and community resilience to create smarter and sustainable cities.

Participants will also visit high-tech incubators, urban demonstration sites, and cutting-edge facilities to witness real-world applications of these technologies.

2.Workshops and Symposiums
Collaborate with peers, scholars and industry experts in interactive workshops focused on sustainable urban development. These sessions aim to inspire innovative, cross-disciplinary solutions and foster a global collaborative spirit.

3.Cultural Immersion
Experience Beijing’s rich history and culture through visits to iconic landmarks such as the Forbidden City, the Great Wall, and national museums. Participate in immersive cultural activities and interact with locals to gain firsthand insights into Chinese traditions and modern life. These excursions will provide a deeper appreciation of China’s cultural legacy and its role in shaping sustainable urban futures.

   

PROGRAM OUTCOMES
By the end of the program, participants will:

·Receive an official Certificate of Completion from the Tsinghua EE Summer School Program

·Gain advanced knowledge in electronics and IT applications for urban sustainability.

FAQs: Tsinghua EE Summer School 2026


1. Are only students from an Electronic Engineering background eligible, or can students from other disciplines apply?

We warmly welcome students from a wide range of relevant fields. Ideal candidates include those with academic backgrounds in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Automation, Biotechnology, Physics, Data Science, Mathematics, or related disciplines. Our department thrives on interdisciplinary collaboration, and we encourage students who can contribute diverse perspectives to apply.


   

2. What are the accommodation arrangements? Will it be covered by Tsinghua?

Yes, accommodation will be fully covered by Tsinghua University for the duration of the program. Students will be housed in shared rooms on campus, with two students per room.


   

3. What expenses should students expect to cover during the program (e.g., meals, local transportation, attraction fees)?

·Meals: Students will receive a campus card, which they can load with funds for use in university canteens. The estimated daily cost for meals on campus is approximately RMB ¥30–50 (about $4–7 USD). Please note that meals will be provided free of charge by Tsinghua during all officially organized group activities.

·Local Transportation: All transportation costs related to official program activities and excursions will be covered. However, students are responsible for their own transportation expenses if they choose to explore independently during free time.

·Attraction Entry Fees: Entry fees for all sites visited as part of the organized program itinerary will be fully covered by Tsinghua.


   

4. What are the visa requirements for participating in the summer school?

Visa policies vary by nationality. Citizens of countries with bilateral or unilateral visa-free agreements with China may be eligible to stay for up to 30 days without a visa. We recommend checking the website of the Chinese embassy or consulate in your country/region for the most current information.

For students requiring a visa: If your country is not on the visa-free list and you have been officially nominated by your home institution, Tsinghua University can provide the necessary invitation documents to support your visa application.


   


5. What are the expected arrival and departure dates for the 2026 Summer School?

To ensure you can fully participate in all program activities, please plan your travel according to the following schedule:

·Arrival & Check-in: Sunday, June 14, 2026

·Closing Ceremony: Saturday, June 27, 2026

·Departure & Check-out: Sunday, June 28, 2026

Students should plan to arrive on June 14th for check-in at the Tsinghua dormitories. The program officially concludes with the closing ceremony on June 27th, with check-out and departure scheduled for the following day, June 28th.
