INTRODUCTION
Department of Electronic Engineering, Tsinghua University invites outstanding students from partner institutions worldwide to join a transformative summer program in Beijing. Under the guidance of renowned professors, industry leaders, and innovators, participants will explore how cutting-edge advancements in electronics and information technology—such as AI, robotics, IoT, and new energy—can drive sustainable urban development and foster a harmonious coexistence between humans and the urban environment.
Participants will also immerse themselves in Beijing’s rich cultural heritage, gaining a deeper understanding of China’s historical legacy and its modern contributions to global sustainability. This unique program combines academic rigor, hands-on learning, and cultural exploration to inspire the next generation of leaders in technology and sustainable urban innovation.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
This program is designed for:
· Undergraduate students in their pre-final year.
· Graduate students pursuing research-oriented degrees.
· Exceptionally talented high school students with a strong interest in STEM fields.
Note: Applicants must be nominated by Tsinghua EE’s partner institutions.
PROGRAM ACTIVITIES
1.Academic Training
Engage in lectures, seminars, and hands-on lab sessions led by experts in the field. Key themes include Applications of AI and innovative technologies in urban wellness, healthcare, new energy systems, smart mobility, and urban innovation into urban governance, cultural preservation, and community resilience to create smarter and sustainable cities.
Participants will also visit high-tech incubators, urban demonstration sites, and cutting-edge research facilities to witness real-world applications of these technologies.
2.Workshops and Symposiums
Collaborate with peers, scholars and industry experts in interactive workshops focused on sustainable urban development. These sessions aim to inspire innovative solutions and foster global collaboration for creating smarter, greener cities.
3.Cultural Immersion
Experience Beijing’s rich history and culture through visits to iconic landmarks such as the Forbidden City, the Great Wall, and national museums. Participate in immersive cultural activities and interact with locals to gain firsthand insights into Chinese traditions and modern life. These excursions will provide a deeper appreciation of China’s cultural legacy and its role in shaping sustainable urban futures.
PROGRAM OUTCOMES
By the end of the program, participants will:

1. Are only students from an EE background eligible, or can students from other related fields also apply?
We warmly welcome students from various STEM fields to apply. Our EE department at Tsinghua University boasts a diverse faculty, researchers, and graduate students, spanning computer science, automation, biotechnology, physics, data science, urban studies, and more.
2. Will accommodation be covered by Tsinghua? In single rooms or shared rooms? If shared, how many students per room?
Accommodation will be fully covered by Tsinghua. Students will be arranged in shared rooms, with 2 students per room.
3. What expenses do students need to cover during their exchange period at Tsinghua? Specifically, meals, local transportation, and attraction entry fees.
· Meals:
Tsinghua will provide students with a meal card for use in campus canteens, preloaded with a certain amount to cover daily dining needs. However, as individual dietary preferences may vary, students may need to top up their meal cards or order from external restaurants to meet specific requirements. These additional costs will be the responsibility of the student. For group activities organized by the summer school that coincide with meal times, Tsinghua will provide meals without charges.
· Local Transportation:
Tsinghua will cover all transportation expenses for students participating in organized activities. However, if students choose to explore independently during their free time, they will be responsible for their own transportation costs.
· Attraction Entry Fees:
These expenses will be fully covered by Tsinghua.
4. Visa Requirements
China has opened bilateral or unilateral visa-free policies with over 50 countries. Citizens from these countries may stay in China for up to 30 days without a visa. Please check the website of the Chinese embassy or consulate in your country/region for specific visa requirements.
If your country is not on the visa-free list, and you have been nominated by your home institution to participate in our summer school, we can provide the necessary invitation documents to support your Chinese visa application.
