2025–2026 Ma Yuehan Cup Season Review

Men's Volleyball

In this season's tournament, the EE men's volleyball team won the bronze medal (Group A) in beach volleyball. In indoor volleyball, as defending champions, they welcomed back Yudong Xie, a powerful opposite hitter returning from an exchange in the US, and once again fielded the strongest lineup. However, all of the key players, from undergraduates to doctoral students, will graduate after this season. For them, this was not just a title run but a last dance. In the group stage, the team defeated Zhili College, SEM, and the Department of Physics , advancing as group leader. They then swept the Department of Computer Science and Technology 3:0 in the quarterfinals and beat the Department of Mechanical Engineering 3:1 in the semifinals to reach the final. Unfortunately, two hours before the final, an absolute key player suffered an unexpected injury, and the team eventually lost to the Department of Hydraulic Engineering 2:3, finishing as Group A runners-up. On that rainy night, the dream of a three-peat was shattered, but not every story needs a championship to be complete; not every unfinished ending can only be called failure. For this team of soon-to-graduate, soon-to-retire players, being able to shoulder pressure, injuries, losses, and regrets together, and still fight to the final set of their last season, is already something to be truly proud of.

Women's Volleyball

In this season's indoor volleyball tournament, the EE women's volleyball team regrouped and trained hard, addressing the regrets and shortcomings from last year's Group A campaign. The team united and overcame difficulties, defeating Xingjian College and the School of Vehicle and Mobility in the group stage. They then advanced through the quarterfinals and semifinals to reach the final, ultimately winning the silver medal in Group B. The matches were not always smooth, but the players kept learning from ups and downs and gathering strength in adversity, fully demonstrating the indomitable, never-give-up, and striving spirit of EE sports.

Pickleball

First champions, undefeated reign! On October 25, 2025, at Tsinghua University's inaugural pickleball tournament, the EE representative team dominated with six straight wins to claim the Group A championship. They cruised past the School of Medicine and Health in the group stage, defeated  the Department of Computer Science and Technology in the semifinals, and steadily beat the Department of Automation in the final. Every victory proved the team's chemistry and strength. Winning the first-ever title was the highest recognition of the EE pickleball team. In the seasons ahead, the team welcomes new members to join them in defending the glory on the purple clay tennis courts of EE!

Tennis

Chasing the dream, proud despite defeat! On March 28, 2026, in the Ma Yuehan Cup tennis group stage, the EE tennis team - a traditional powerhouse with three Group A championships - gave their all. Though they failed to advance, their tenacity and hard work on the court shone with the spirit of "no sports, no Tsinghua." During the group stage, the team fought bravely, with a bright men's doubles victory and a moving moment where a mixed doubles player persevered despite cramping. Although the overall result fell short of expectations, every moment of perseverance was worthy of recognition.

10,000m Relay

On March 26, 2026, the EE track and field team achieved a remarkable time of 31:24.06 to win the silver medal in Group A of the Ma Yuehan Cup 10,000m relay, setting a new all-time best for the department in this event. From systematic training at the start of the semester to the seamless baton exchanges on the track, the silver medal proved the power of persistence and growth. The veterans who kept pushing their limits, the energetic new talents, and the professional coaching team together built the depth and resilience of this squad. This breakthrough is not an end but the starting point of a new journey.

Ultimate Frisbee

In March 2026, the EE Ultimate Frisbee team easily defeated Weiyang College and Zhili College in the group stage, narrowly lost to the Department of Automation, and advanced as group runners-up. They won against the School of Aerospace Engineering in the knockout round, fought the defending champions Mechanical Engineering to a 7:9 loss in the semifinals, and then beat the Academy of Arts & Design 11:5 in the third-place match to claim Group A bronze - the best result in team history. As veteran players graduated, new talents quickly grew, and the team is entering its best era ever.

Men's Basketball

In the new season of men's 5v5 basketball starting October 2025, the EE men's team underwent a major overhaul: multiple decorated veterans retired, new recruits joined, and existing players developed. With new players, new lineups, a new coach, and new tactics, the team's unwavering belief and upward drive remained. In the group stage, they defeated the Department of Electrical Engineering, narrowly lost to the Academy of Arts & Design, and then beat Hydraulic Engineering in a must-win match to advance to the quarterfinals. There, they faced defending champions Vehicle Engineering and ultimately fell. With further training and chemistry, the team will surely become even more competitive.

Women's Basketball

In the 2025-2026 Ma Yuehan Cup women's 5v5 basketball tournament, the EE women's team, after a major roster overhaul, broke through the shadow of being eliminated in the group stage for the past two years and successfully reached the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, they faced last year's runners-up - the Department of Automation and, despite an eventual loss, showed great spirit and proved their progress. From autumn to spring, from the 5v5 breakthrough to tenacious play in 3v3, the team grew continuously under the guidance of their coach and through everyone's hard work. Next season, we believe they will be even stronger!

Swimming

On March 28 - 29, 2026, the EE swimming team, self-dubbed the "Unemployed Swimmers," competed fiercely over two days and finished as runners-up with a total of 157 points, just two points behind the champion. Participation reached a record high. The new blood shone brightly, and the veteran swimmers remained rock-solid, winning gold and silver in individual events and showing great teamwork in relays. They poured their sweat and passion into the blue waves, carrying forward the tradition of "sports for all, joyful sports, and surpassing oneself."

Baseball

After two years of recruitment and careful development, the EE baseball team has grown steadily, with new talents maturing. With the strong return of veteran players and the rise of newcomers, the team is now striving for the top spot in the Ma Yuehan Cup.

Table Tennis

On March 29, 2026, at the table tennis tournament, the EE team fought through seven intense matches and finished as runners-up, improving on last year's bronze. Over the past five years, they have achieved three "Graduate Cup" championships and one Ma Yuehan Cup championship, three runner-ups, and one bronze. Silver brilliance, legend continues! This achievement would not have been possible without everyone's effort and support!

Badminton

On November 29 - 30, 2025, at the badminton tournament, the EE team faced a tough group draw and the absence of some key players, yet they remained steady, displayed solid chemistry, and showed relentless determination. They fought hard against the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the School of Architecture, and showed no fear against the strong School of Life Sciences, eventually finishing 10th overall, successfully defending their Group A status. Behind this result is the perseverance of every team member in adversity and the courage to keep pushing beyond their limits.

Shuttlecock and Rope Skipping

On November 13, 2025, at the shuttlecock and rope skipping competition, the EE team worked together with full dedication and scored 166 points to claim second place in Group A, matching the team's best result in history.

Freshmen Barefoot Games

On September 27, 2025, at the "Health Begins Underfoot" Freshmen Barefoot Games, the EE athletes of Class 2025 achieved excellent results in multiple events, finishing second overall in Group A. Earlier, in the tug-of-war competition, Class 53 reached the semifinals and earned seventh place in the overall class team standings. As the only university-level event exclusively for freshmen, the Class of 2025 demonstrated the spirit of "fear nothing" and announced the arrival of a new generation of EE sports.

Cheerleading

At the 2026 cheerleading competition, the EE cheerleading team delivered a crisp, energetic pom routine and scored 90.50 points, ranking third university-wide and repeating as Group A bronze medalists. The team consists of 10 undergraduate and 3 graduate students. Founded just a year ago in March, after one year of scientific training, they increased their routine difficulty, speed, and choreographic originality based on last year's quality-focused performance, ultimately dazzling the audience. We wish the EE cheerleading team steady long-term development, continuous experience, and even greater success in the future.

Shooting

On April 19, 2026, at the shooting competition, EE students who had taken shooting courses signed up enthusiastically. The team achieved its best result ever: women's air pistol and air rifle team double champions, men's air rifle and air pistol team bronze medals, and a total of six individuals reaching the finals, all with excellent results. Yuting Li won the women's air pistol individual championship. Thanks to the availability of shooting courses, EE has consistently placed in the top three in individual and team events for many years. Accurate shooting, again achieving glory.

Ice Hockey

This season, Tsinghua University held its first-ever Ice and Snow Sports Games, so the EE ice hockey team was formed. In the group stage, they won three of four matches with a goal difference of +17 and advanced as second in Group C. In the quarterfinals, they beat the Department of Computer Science in a shootout. They defeated the School of Materials Science and Engineering 5:2 in the semifinals and then lost to the Duish i- Industrial Engineering - Software joint team in the final, finishing as runners-up in their debut appearance. Though newly established, after a season of hard work, they have become a strong, fearless, and determined team.

Roller Hockey

On April 18–19, 2026, at the roller hockey tournament, the EE roller hockey team adhered to a defense-first, fast-counterattack philosophy. They lost 0:1 to the Mechanical Engineering - Psychology joint team, beat the Union Medical College team 4:0, and held the champion joint team to a 0:0 draw before losing a close shootout, eventually winning the bronze medal. They demonstrated a resilient sportsmanship. In the future, the team will further strengthen its pipeline, diversify its roster, and strive to become a new benchmark for EE sports.

Men's Football

The 2025–2026 season was tough for the young EE men's football team. In the 11-a-side competition, they lost 0:2 to the School of Architecture, lost 0:3 to SEM, and drew 1:1 with the School of Materials Science and Engineering to secure their place in the top division. However, in the spring 5-a-side tournament, the team staged consecutive comebacks against the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Department of Electrical Engineering, and the Academy of Arts & Design. They beat SEM in the quarterfinals but, hampered by injuries and exams, lost in the rainy semifinals and then lost the third-place match. Still, they reached the 5-a-side semifinals for the fourth straight year. Though struggling in the 11-a-side competition, their energy and potential in the 5-a-side arena are inspiring. We believe this young team will clear the clouds and restore its championship glory in the near future.

Women's Football

In the 2025–2026 season, the EE women's football team continued their strong momentum. In the group stage, they beat Rixin College on penalties, defeated the School of Social Sciences 1:0 to advance one round early, and lost to Xinya College on penalties while playing with a depleted squad, finishing as group runners-up. In the knockout round, they faced the strong Schwarzman College team and eventually lost. This season, the team saw marked improvements in training frequency and attendance. New members from the 2025 intake have joined, and the tactical system has grown increasingly sophisticated. These passionate, fearless, united, and hard-fighting "steel roses" will continue to improve next season and aim even higher - EE roses, ever flourishing!
