Delegation from Invest Qatar and the Qatar Free Zones Authority Visits Tsinghua University

On July 1st, a high-level delegation from the Invest Qatar and the Qatar Free Zones Authority visited Tsinghua University. Vice President Wang Hongwei met with the guests in the West Hall of the Gongziting, and the two sides held talks on expanding cooperation in scientific research and innovation fields in the future.


Wang Hongwei extended a warm welcome to the delegation, introduced Tsinghua University's latest progress in advancing its global strategy as well as scientific research and innovation, and stated that Tsinghua University has always adhered to an open and inclusive attitude, actively responded to the national "Belt and Road" Initiative, and sought cooperation opportunities with top global institutions. Tsinghua University attaches great importance to scientific research and innovation cooperation with Qatar, and looks forward to the two sides giving full play to their respective advantages, joining hands to build an international demonstration cooperation benchmark, promoting technological innovation and regional economic development, achieving mutual benefit and win-win results, and injecting new impetus into regional development.


H.E. Sheikh Ali Alwaleed Al-Thani, Chief Executive Officer of the Invest Qatar, introduced the strategic measures of the Invest Qatar in promoting Qatar's economic diversification and attracting foreign investment, and expressed the expectation to further deepen cooperation with Tsinghua University in the fields of education, scientific research and innovation development, and work together to explore new opportunities and open up new prospects.

Following the meeting, the Qatar delegation visited the Electronic Engineering Department Building at Tsinghua University for a discussion. Wang Yu, Chair of the EE Department, extended a warm welcome to the guests on behalf of the department. He emphasized that the department has established a comprehensive innovation chain spanning fundamental research to technology transfer, achieving breakthroughs in both academic contributions ("on the bookshelf") and practical applications ("on the shelf"). He expressed confidence that by leveraging the department’s strengths in research commercialization, both sides could advance collaboration in the field of electronic information through concrete measures such as enhancing joint talent cultivation and promoting the implementation of scientific and technological achievements.


Zhang Milin, Executive Assistant to the Chair of the Department of Electronic Engineering,  provided a detailed overview of the department’s recent developments and distinctive strengths in disciplinary construction and international collaboration. She also presented proposals for joint talent training and research achievement transformation between the two parties.


H.E. Sheikh Ali Alwaleed Al-Thani, CEO of Investment Promotion Agency Qatar, expressed his honor at facilitating this exchange during his first visit to Beijing and Tsinghua University. He highlighted the extensive and in-depth cooperation potential between the two sides in various sectors, including energy, communications, transportation, and intelligence. He highly praised the leading position and scientific research strength of Tsinghua University's Department of Electronic Engineering in related fields and looked forward to the establishment and development of future collaborative institutions adding new momentum to bilateral cooperation.

H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Thani, CEO of Qatar Free Zone Authority, similarly emphasized Qatar's diversified needs and vast development space during its ongoing transformation. Currently, Qatar is in a stage of rapid development and transformation, and the attention to cutting-edge fields such as electronic information is increasing significantly. He expressed hope to collaborate with Chinese companies in more fields to explore new paths for innovation and development together.


Si Junjie, Director of Greater China at the Qatar Investment Promotion Agency, expressed from the perspective of investment promotion the strong desire of the Qatari team to strengthen communication and cooperation with Chinese partners. He mentioned that the team has been committed to promoting cooperation with Chinese companies, hoping to strengthen communication with Tsinghua University's Department of Electronic Engineering and more Chinese scientific research institutions and enterprises through this exchange, explore more cooperation opportunities, and jointly promote progress and development in related fields.

After the meeting, Wang Yu, on behalf of the Department of Electronic Engineering, presented gifts to the Qatar team, once again extending a warm welcome to the delegation and conveying best wishes for the continued success of bilateral cooperation.

Finally, the Qatari delegation proceeded to the 11th-floor lecture hall of the Electronic Engineering Building at Tsinghua University, where, led by Council Director Shen Yuan, The exhibition showcased the latest scientific research achievements of the department in multiple cutting-edge technology fields, including intelligent training assessment and artificial intelligence computing. It not only demonstrated the department's strong strength in technological innovation but also reflected its proactive efforts in promoting the practical application of scientific research outcomes and expanding international scientific research cooperation. The Qatar delegation expressed great interest in the exhibited research projects and engaged in in-depth discussions with project leaders to jointly explore possibilities for future collaboration.

This exchange not only deepened the mutual understanding between the two sides in the field of electronic information technology but also laid a solid foundation for future cooperative innovation. The Department of Electronic Engineering looks forward to future cooperation with Qatar across broader fields to jointly promote scientific and technological progress and contribute to the social welfare of China, Qatar, and the global community.
