On March 13, 2026, a delegation from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University visited the Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University for in-depth exchanges on topics including research collaboration, student exchange, and joint training programs. The meeting was held at the Electronic Engineering Department Building of Tsinghua University.
Prof. SHEN Yuan, Chair of the Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University, warmly welcomed the delegation from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and introduced the department’s significant progress in recent years in discipline development, scientific research, talent cultivation, and internationalization. In particular, he introduced the department’s research focus in areas such as optoelectronics, artificial intelligence, and information and communication technologies, as well as its exploration of international cooperation and innovative student training programs.
Following this, Prof. Chung Chi-yung, Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, presented an overview of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. He noted that the department has recently undergone structural integration and disciplinary reorganization, forming new research directions in areas including power and energy, intelligent transportation, optical and intelligent, information security, artificial intelligence, robotics, and advanced materials. The department has also been actively promoting collaborations with international universities and industry partners to continuously enhance its research capacity and talent development.
During the discussion session, both sides explored in depth areas of scientific research collaboration, student exchanges, joint training, and summer school. The representatives noted that the two universities have a strong foundation for cooperation and complementary strengths across multiple research fields, and agreed to enhance faculty visits, academic exchanges, and student training programs. Both parties also committed to strengthening departmental communication within the existing cooperation framework, establishing a regular liaison mechanism, advancing relevant projects, and jointly promoting development and exchanges in the field of electronic information.
Prof. SHEN Yuan, Chair of the Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University, attended the meeting together with Prof. Zhang Minlin, Executive Assistant to the Chair, Prof. Xue Xiaoxiao, Prof. Zhang Weiqiang, Prof. Chen Hongwei, Prof. Wang Guijin, as well as faculty and staff responsible for international cooperation and student programs. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University delegation was led by Professor Chung Chi-yung, Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and included Professor Bu Siqi, Professor Hu Haibo, Professor Li Gang, Professor Lu Chao, Professor Niu Shuangxia, as well as related researchers.
