Prof. DOU Weibei joined Tsinghua University in 1995, and is vice-director of Research Institute of Circuits And Systems, Department of Electronic Engineering. Because of her research interests are focused on Multi-sensor / Multimodal signal processing and information fusion systems, her research lab so called then Multimodal Data Processing Systems Lab. In the field of Digital Television, Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) and medical signal processing system,  some research projects have been done, such as: audio signal compression, joined audio and visual information retrieval,Multimodal Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) signal processing and information fusion. She has been teaching two undergraduate courses and two graduate courses since 1999. Such as “Digital Signal Processing” and “Experiment and design of Signal processing” courses are for undergraduate student, nevertheless “Digital Video and Audio Signal Processing” and “Architecture Analysis of Digital Signal Processing Processor” are for Graduate student. She has published more than 90 academic articles which have been cited at least 300 times by other scientists. She has been awarded at least 15 Patents for Invention. Until Feb. 2013, she has supervised 5 Ph.D. students and 19 M.Sc. Students.

Areas of Research Interests/ Research Projects

Research area is related to Multisensor and Multimodal Signal Processing System. It extents to theory, application and system design, three research domains, including of specific information extraction, information fusion-based decision, and evaluation criterion, etc. which are in theory research domain; Audio-visual signal and neuroimaging signal processing systems in application domain, such as data analysis and compression, specific objective detection and retrieval, automatic quantitative analysis of tumorous pathological changes, computer-aided diagnosis and operation, etc. and then, in real-time system design domain, focused on DSP processor-based low power system and high performance parallel computational system.

Research achievements include: A framework of fuzzy information fusion for automatic segmentation of brain tumor tissues on MR images; Fuzzy kappa for the agreement measure of fuzzy classifications; Several methods of fuzzy modeling for the features of brain tissues in MRI images;Multivolume in vivo MRS signal processing; Brain tumor Quantification and Segmentation from MRI and MRS; MDCT Sinusoidal Analysis for Audio Signals Analysis; Audio compression scheme of multi-channel sound based on the virtual surrounding sound effect; Sport games highlight detection based on information fusion of joined audio and video features;Several fast algorithms for audio compression used for fixed-point DSP processors.
