Wang Xiqin, executive vice president of Tsinghua University, Wang Yu, Chair of the Department of Electronic Engineering, Sun Shuyan, secretary of the Temporary Youth League Branch of the Medical Aid Team to Hubei of Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital, Lan Min, deputy secretary of the Youth League Committee of the College, Wang Shengjin, head teacher of the No. 95 class of Department of Electronic Engineering, and Liu Jixin, member of the doctoral lecturer group, are invited to participate in this theme day activity. With the educational slogan of "serve the family and the country, strive ahead", No 95 Youth League Branch of Department of Electronic Engineering, Tsinghua University held this theme day activity, during which period, the theme education was further carried out based on the analysis of current events to understand the profound connotation of system self-confidence, by means of sharing of first-line anti-epidemic stories told by nurses of medical aid team to Hubei, introduction of epidemic control measures by department Chair, giving lectures by doctoral lecturer group member and thematic discussions between teachers and students etc.

The activity is presided over by Chang Hailong who reviewed the process of epidemic control in various countries of the world in the form of world epidemic news broadcasting, introduced the anti-epidemic measures taken by various countries and their effects, and introduced the theme of the activity day-"On the Advantages and Disadvantages of National Governance from the Perspective of Chinese and Foreign Epidemic Response Measures"

During the activity day, the members of the branch, which are divided in three groups, completed the thematic research report. Zhang Yiyuan of China's overall epidemic prevention investigation team summarized the overall epidemic prevention process of China and introduced the major measures taken in four stages: quick response, support from all sides, anti-epidemic and end of epidemic. Chang Hailong of China's local epidemic prevention investigation team also introduced many epidemic prevention measures with local characteristics across the country, such as using electronic passes for identity registration, helping isolated residents to purchases supplies, and implementing daily health registration system. Chang Hailong and Peng Xinyu of the foreign epidemic prevention investigation team introduced the epidemic situation and epidemic prevention measures taken in Spain, Italy and Britain, with focus on showing the contents of interview with local people in Britain by British student Reeve and sharing the social situation and people's feelings under the background of the British epidemic prevention measures.

In the epidemic prevention knowledge competition, the Branch members have a better understanding of and are fully aware of Covid-19 through Q&A link.

Later, the video interview with the medical staff of Wuhan No.7 Hospital (one of first batch of designated hospitals for Covid-19 treatment) by the branch members was broadcast on the site, and in the video, the medical staff shared their stories and feelings about the treatment work in the frontline. One of the nurses said that: "I feel a little scared after seeing so many patients, but it was our responsibility to heal the wounded and rescue the dying. Everyone is willing to receive the training seriously, sticks to their posts and actively participates in the Covid-19 treatment work."

Interview with front-line medical staff in Wuhan No.7 Hospital

Wang Yu introduced the anti-epidemic measures taken by teachers, students and alumni of the Department of Electronic Engineering in the process of battle against the epidemic. To ensure the smooth progress of online teaching, the teachers of the Department of Electronic Engineering start to learn relevant technologies of online teaching, prepare emergency plans, open the cloning classes to universities in Wuhan, Xinjiang and other regions, and provide the high-quality teaching resources. The Department of Electronic Engineering also launched a fund-raising campaign at the Alumni Association, and they have raised RMB 500,000 within 24 hours and purchased 10 respirators which will be sent to designated hospitals in Wuhan.

Sun Shuyan shared the true story against the epidemic at the front line. She told the members of the Branch the treatment story that took place during the epidemic, and said that due to such special experience, she started to cherish the affection and love more often and feel love while expressing it.

Later, the members of the Branch held group discussions on whether the differences in epidemic prevention and control between China and foreign countries are related to national system, and shared the results of the group discussions at activity site. Wang Shilin, the member of the Branch, said: "China has the institutional advantages of gather strengths to deal with important matters. One province helps one city, and many factories reconstruct their production lines to produce epidemic prevention materials such as disinfectant and face masks, so that the epidemic situation in China can be quickly controlled."

Liu Jixin shared the theme of "Epidemic Response from the Perspective of International Comparison and China's National Governance Advantages". In the report, the impact of foreign public management modes on the control of the epidemic is also analyzed, pointing out that western people keep wary of the expansion of government power, and due to struggle of multiple social forces in the process of epidemic control, the policies are unable to be issued smoothly. Liu Jixin believes that every social system has its own characteristics. We should realize the advantages of our country's political system and establish the institutional confidence.

At the end of the theme day activity, Wang Xiqin, on behalf of the school, expressed greetings to the students who actively prepared for the activity and made the summarization. Wang Xiqin said that the epidemic prevention and control level in Beijing is still strict at current stage, and the school's teaching, scientific research, management works etc. are under progress in an orderly way. Wang Xiqin highly affirmed the contributions and efforts made by the students for the online teaching mode, and expressed full confidence in the school's epidemic prevention and control work and the subsequent student return schedule. Wang Xiqin expressed his hope that the students could be firm and confident and offer the biggest trust and support to the prevention and control measures taken by the country and the school.

Wang Xiqin reviewed the prevention and control measures taken by school during the epidemic and shared his feelings and thoughts form the following three aspects: Firstly, this global public health emergency event is undoubtedly a challenge for us. However, the epidemic can make students to think deeply and have a deeper understanding of the school spirit, ethos and social responsibility. Secondly, Tsinghua University has always been sticking to the tradition of "integration of China and the West, integration of ancient and modern times, and combination of literature and sciences". Through the comparison and discussion of epidemic prevention and control measures between China and foreign countries, students should not only fully understand and inherit China’s culture and system, but also dialectically understand and learn western culture and system, to truly achieve integration of connection of Chinese and western cultures. Thirdly, as students of Tsinghua University, we should have the responsibility and ability to become the backbone of the international community in the face of common challenges in the future. The epidemic is not only a challenge, but also an opportunity for students to grow up. In addition to studying professional courses, students should also establish a sense of responsibility, develop yourself with international vision, face the future and the world, and actively meet the challenges by taking proper actions.
