On the afternoon of November 9, 2018, Tsinghua University held a title conferring ceremony for Academician Fan Bangkui as a part-time professor at Rohm Building. Vice President Wang Xiqin participated in the ceremony, and Huang Yidong, Chair of the Department of Electronic Engineering and some teachers participated in the title conferring ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Professor Wang Shengjin, Director of the Research Center for Media Big-data Cognitive Computing, Tsinghua University.

Academician Fan Bangkui is a member of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Senior Engineer of the Joint Staff Department at the Central Military Commission, Major General in the Army, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and one of the academic leaders in the UAV reconnaissance technology field in China.

Vice President Wang Xiqin warmly welcomed Academician Fan Bangkui's appointment as a part-time professor of Tsinghua University. He briefly introduced the basic information of Tsinghua University and the current development of the university, and pointed out that the key to the development of disciplines lies in high-end talents, faculty building and team building. He hoped that after Academician Fan Bangkui joined the Department of Electronic Engineering, Tsinghua University, he can play a leading role team building, discipline construction and scientific research to further improve the discipline development level of the AI + UAV reconnaissance technology field of Tsinghua University.

Academician Fan Bangkui said that Tsinghua University is a world-famous university and the Department of Electronic Engineering, Tsinghua University is a world's leading electronic information teaching and research institution. After joining the Department of Electronic Engineering, he will undertake his responsibilities, actively carry out scientific research, and help the Department to improve the research level rapidly. And he briefly introduced his work plan and his tentative idea to promote the scientific research work.

Chair Huang Yidong introduced the resume and main academic achievements of Academician Fan Bangkui.

At the ceremony, Vice President Wang Xiqin and Chair Huang Yidong respectively presented the letter of appointment of part-time professor and the letter of appointment of academic consultant of the Research Center for Media Big-data Cognitive Computing, Tsinghua University to Academician Fan Bangkui.

After the appointment ceremony, Academician Fan Bangkui had an informal discussion with the participating teachers, conducting exchanges and guidance on the research area of the Department of Electronic Engineering, Tsinghua University in the AI + UAV reconnaissance technology field.

Fan Bangkui, a leader in the UAV reconnaissance technology field in China, has been engaged in the overall UAV reconnaissance, equipment research and development and key technology research work in the front line of scientific research for many years. He has successively completed more than ten national and military major equipment engineering scientific research projects and built the entire army UAV reconnaissance system, and overcome many key technologies such as UAV data link, photoelectric reconnaissance high-precision target positioning and synthetic aperture radar high-quality imaging, and made outstanding contributions to the casting of "trump card" reconnaissance equipment and the formation of UAV forces. And the equipment researched and developed under his charge took part in the parade for the 60th anniversary of the National Day and the parade for the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.

He won 1 Special Award and 1 First Prize of National Science Progress Award, 4 Second Prizes of National Science Progress Award, 6 First Prizes of Military Science Progress Award, and 2 First Prizes of National Defense Science Progress Award; and he was honored with one first-class and one second-class merit citations respectively; he has been authorized with 15 patents, published 4 monographs, and published over 20 papers; he has led the team to win the collective first-class merit citation and the military science innovation group award. In 2015, he was elected as an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering.
