On March 23-24, the 2018 Ideology and Politics and Student Training Seminar of the Department of Electronic Engineering were held in the suburb of Beijing. Wang Xiqin, Vice President of Tsinghua University, attended the seminar upon invitation. A total of over 80 people, including main leaders of the Department of Electronic Engineering, secretaries of each research institute, directors, head teachers, course teachers, teachers from the Teaching Affairs Office, undergraduate counselors, postgraduate moral education assistants and student backbones, attended the seminar.

Vice President Wang Xiqin made a keynote speech at the seminar. He pointed out that the students' ideology and politics and training work faces new situations and higher requirements currently and hoped that the Department of Electronic Engineering can deeply discuss new situations, new characteristics and main contradictions in students' ideology and politics and training work and strive to create a new situation of students' ideology and politics and training work. President Wang talked about his understanding of some current educational topics and led everyone to think about different levels of education, correctly understand MOOC and other new educational forms, as well as look at the relationship between general education and professional education dialectically. President Wang also analyzed the contradictions between professional learning and students' work from the perspective of "system blindness", proposing that students' training should face the modernization, the world and the future, should go on a big stage and do a massive undertaking, and should come out from the individual self, establish a vision of a community with a shared future for mankind, and train talents with global competence and international influence.

At the seminar, many teachers made special reports on situations involved students' ideology and politics and training work. Mr. Wu Ji, Deputy Chair of the Department made a keynote report on "strengthening the construction of professional courses and promoting the internationalization of talent training", deeply analyzing the contradictions and challenges of the existing training system, and elaborating the consideration of improving the talent training quality of the Department of Electronic Engineering from aspects such as curriculum setting, innovation and entrepreneurship, and international exchange. Mr. Shen Yuan, leader of the Student Working Group, introduced the achievements of the undergraduate training in 2017, analyzed the existing problems and shortcomings, and elaborated the work idea for 2018. Mr. Zhou Sheng, leader of the Postgraduate Working Group, reported the work of the Postgraduate Working Group in the past year in detail and analyzed the problems encountered in the postgraduate work such as the enthusiasm of the postgraduate party branch secretary, and the practice in winter and summer vacations, and gave further work prospects on postgraduate party building, employment, and academics and other aspects. Mr. Wang Jian, as a director of Grade 2015 and representative of the head teachers of the undergraduate class, introduced the situation of Grade 2015 and discussed the students' study style problems. Assistant to the Chair of the Department Zhang Milin started from the internationalized training of students and put forward the suggestions on "establishing a platform for international exchange during the summer vacation of the Department of Electronic Engineering". The seminar also specially invited Dr. Yang Zhusong from the School of Public Policy and Management to make a keynote report on "strengthening centralized and unified leadership and bravely undertaking the mission of national rejuvenation", making an in-depth interpretation of the report of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the spirit of the recent plenary session of the central committee and the NPC and CPPCC Sessions. All students and teachers of the work system of the Department of Electronic Engineering had a lively ideological and political class.

At the seminar, the participating teachers and students were divided into groups to conduct complete and enthusiastic discussions on the four topics of "doctoral students' academic vision and academic responsibility", "challenges and ways to train students' international competence", "students' refined training and diversified development", and "study style and curriculum construction". Finally, Mr. Jin Depeng, Party Committee Secretary of the Department, summarized the seminar and emphasized that the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the 14th Party Congress of the university should be learned deeply to grasp the new characteristics of the ideological and political work in the new era, and work together to do a good job in the work of students' training in the new era.
