On November 1, the 2020 Ideology and Politics and Student Training Seminar of the Department of Electronic Engineering were held in the suburb of Beijing. A total of 98 people, including department leaders, such as Wang Yu, Chair of the Department of Electronic Engineering, and Jin Depeng, Party Committee Secretary, secretaries of the research institutions, directors, head teachers, course teachers, teachers from the Student Affairs Office and Teaching Affairs Office, undergraduate counselors, postgraduate moral education assistants and student representatives attended the seminar. Xie Xiaohui, leader of the Student Working Group of the Department of Computer Science and Technology attended the seminar upon invitation on behalf of School of Information Science and Technology.

The seminar was presided over by Liu Yimin, Deputy Party Committee Secretary of the Department of Electronic Engineering. Liu Yimin gave a general introduction to the seminar which was divided into thematic report in the morning and group discussion in the afternoon with the theme of "student training in the new era". The Ideology and Politics and Student Training Seminar of the Department of Electronic Engineering is an important annual conference of the Department. It is hoped that through this seminar, teachers, counselors, and class assistants can have a deep thinking about how to achieve a new height of various tasks in student training of the Department of Electronic Engineering.

At the beginning of the seminar, Shen Yuan, Deputy Chair of the Department of Electronic Engineering made a report on the "postgraduate curriculum system reform". Shen Yuan introduced the current situation and reform progress of the postgraduate curriculum system of the Department of Electronic Engineering, emphasized that the core concept of science and education integration should be adhered to accelerate the construction of the postgraduate curriculum system and promote the undergraduate and postgraduate connection, and further promote the experience of promoting the construction of postgraduate frontier courses with the new model of school-enterprise joint construction. Targeted at a series of problems of curriculum system reform, the overall idea of solid foundation, frontier guidance, undergraduate and postgraduate connection and classified training should be established to perfect the training model of professional degree postgraduates and train high-level and top-notch innovative talents.

Li Yue, leader of the Student Working Group, summarized the work of the Student Working Group in the 2019-2020 school years and looked forward. Li Yue said that the proportion of new student submitting applications for joining the party has increased year by year, and he introduced the work achievements during the epidemic prevention and control period from aspects such as graduation ceremony, one-on-one contact with freshmen, emergency measures, emergency handling, and routine work. He emphasized that the training plan of teaching undergraduates according to their aptitudes should be continuously implemented, and the undergraduate work should be deeply developed from the three aspects of value shaping, capability training and knowledge impartment, and the ways and methods to shape undergraduates' value in the new era should be continuously sought.

Li Maokun, leader of the Postgraduate Working Group summarized the work of the Postgraduate Working Group in the 2019-2020 school years and looked forward. Li Maokun introduced the general situation of the work from aspects of work objectives, service system and assistant team, and so on, and emphasized that it is necessary to further improve the quality of party branch activities, pay attention to the training of postgraduate backbones, maintain a good party member development momentum and perfect the mechanism of recommending the excellence to join the party and the party building publicity platform. Targeted at postgraduates' mental health issues and transactional work, the professional skill training of the assistant team should be further strengthened, and with serving the students as the goal, the postgraduate party and league and class building work should be improved, providing a bridge between the School, the Departments and postgraduates.

Director Fan Pingyi reported on the basic situation of the students of Grade 2018. Fan Pingyi introduced the academic status of students of Grade 2018 and the party and league and class building. He fully affirmed the important significance of study style building activities such as study style building class meeting and thematic group day to the student training, and emphasized that in the next step, the work would focus on problems such as increased postgraduate recommendation pressure, decreased enthusiasm of social workers and weakened diversified development trend, collect students' suggestions extensively, summarize lessons from public opinion and provide students with internship, crossover and external promotion and other information and help.

Chen Hongwei, supervisor representative, shared his thinking on postgraduate training. Chen Hongwei believed that the postgraduate training should pay attention to the basic principles, industrial applications and cross-disciplines, take the combination of innovation and practicality as the orientation of scientific and technological research, strengthen the scientific research exchange and sharing of the research group in the form of "Journal Club", and encourage students to dare to dig into the "tough issues", focus on the improvement of "soft power" and strive to achieve self-breakthrough. At the same time, the relationship between supervisors and students should be well processed, and students should be guided to establish a sense of home and country; the national development needs should be used to guide their future planning and their dissertations should be written on the motherland, and they should be enabled to become the world-class students.

Ma Xiaohong, a teacher representative, shared her thinking on the construction of the electronic information experimental curriculum system. Ma Xiaohong emphasized that the development goals of the Experimental Teaching Center should be kept in mind, and the "practice orientation and unity of knowing and doing" should be taken as the guiding ideology to train students' engineering practice and innovation capabilities around the curriculum system of the Department of Electronic Engineering. For the curriculum system construction, the practicality, systematization, comprehensiveness and innovation should be taken as the goals for the design of experimental courses, the elective experimental course group and frontier special experiments should be continuously improved, the class hours of experimental courses should be further optimized, and the classroom atmosphere of experimental courses should be actively created to strengthen students' recognition of the experimental course and enhance their multi-aspect gains.

Tan Jingbo, a student representative, discussed his thinking and prospect on the work of counselors of specific classes. Tan Jingbo emphasized that counselor should focus on students' ideological and political education, and cultivate students with good values and outstanding capabilities. Yang Huazhong, Director of the Academic Degrees Committee of the Department of Electronic Engineering spoke around postgraduates' innovative achievement evaluation and teachers' responsibilities. Yang Huazhong said that complete rules for the identification of innovative achievements in electronics and communications should be formed in combination with the national educational development requirements and the educational objectives of Tsinghua University. Meanwhile, supervisors should recognize the value of innovation, grasp the quality of dissertations, face the frontier of science and technology, and establish a "teacher culture" in combination with national needs to create an innovative cultural atmosphere.

For problems existing in ideological guidance and professional training, Xie Xiaohui gave his thinking and suggestions, and shared the specific plan of the "five-star, teaching students according to their aptitudes" of the Department of Computer Science and Technology that integrates scientific and technological research guidance and professional improvement into the curriculum training system, provides career planning, employment guidance and practice platforms for undergraduates and postgraduates, supplements classroom professional education through extracurricular creative activities, forms a 3D and effective professional training model, and relies on high-level faculty scientific research team to provide a scientific research window for undergraduates and play an excellent role in education and guidance.

In the afternoon, the four topics of "value shaping of undergraduates in the new era", "viewing the value orientation of postgraduates from the scholarship evaluation rules", "how to develop education and guidance in one's own development direction" and "how to better optimize the management system of head teachers" were completely and enthusiastically discussed in the seminar and a summary report on the discussions was made.

The group of "value shaping of undergraduates in the new era" analyzed several problems in the student training process and proposed that the curriculum evaluation indicators should be further optimized and the study style building should be strengthened through the form of case education, and a good value orientation should be shaped to reduce students' pressure and the innovation of student activity forms should be promoted through collective wisdom and efforts. The group of "viewing the value orientation of postgraduates from the scholarship evaluation rules" discussed relevant problems of scholarship evaluation and proposed that the training of comprehensive talents with both ability and political integrity and all-round development should be the focus, and the fairness and professionalism of scholarship evaluation and excellence selection, the guidance for scientific research work should be strengthened, and evaluation indicators and systems that can fully reflect students' multi-dimensional levels should be continuously improved. The group of "how to develop education and guidance in one's own development direction" discussed students' development and believed that more rich resources for advanced studies and employment and refined information exchange platforms should be provided to strengthen students' discipline cognition and general training and encourage them to pay attention to production practice and cross-disciplines to further expand their horizons. The group of "how to better optimize the management system of head teachers" mainly studied and discussed several works of head teachers, and proposed that the head teacher assessment and evaluation mechanism should be further optimized, the collaboration and cooperation between head teachers and counselors should be strengthened, the value orientation role should be given full play and the job cases and experience of excellent head teachers should be actively publicized and learned.

Finally, Jin Depeng, Party Committee Secretary of the Department summarized the seminar. Jin Depeng pointed out that the top priority should be given to student training. For student training in the new era, new measures should be proposed and curriculum systems that conform to the characteristics of the Department of Electronic Engineering should be constructed, and the concept of innovation should be followed by all research instituted during the implementation to promote the improvement of postgraduates' innovation capabilities. In the future work, seminars and experience exchange meetings should be conducted in the teacher branch and grade group meetings for the current problems to correct the value deviations of teachers in student training and do a good job in students' value shaping collaboratively. In the new era and under the new situation, the students' ideology and politics work should be practically undertaken, the international and global visions should be expanded, and the innovation of working methods should be continuously promoted to form a long-standing influence to train first-class electronic information talents in the new era.
