Prof. HUANG Kaibin, the head of HKU's EEE department, and Prof. HOU Yunhe, the deputy head, warmly welcomed faculty members and scholars, emphasizing the significance of promoting educational openness and fostering collaborative efforts. The success of this workshop was a direct result of the unwavering support from senior leaders of both universities and the dedicated contributions of faculty members from both departments. Prof. Yuexuan (Amy) Wang, who oversees research and collaboration between HKU and the Chinese Mainland, attended the workshop as a representative of the senior leadership.
Prof. WANG Lai, the deputy chair of THU's EE department, expressed gratitude for the warm reception by their HKU counterparts. THU EE, with its emphasis on electronic information science and technology, has been actively pursuing internationalization through its Sustainable Innovation Initiative since October 2022. This joint workshop is in line with Tsinghua's goals of enhancing scientific and educational programs and nurturing individuals with a global perspective, equipped to tackle global challenges and technological advancements.
The inaugural workshop brought together over twenty faculty members from both HKU and THU, who engaged in enlightening presentations and discussions on a wide range of topics, such as microwave, optoelectronics, electronics, biomedical engineering, radar signals, navigation, communication, AI, and more. The workshop aimed to facilitate scientific and technological exchanges and establish long-lasting collaborations between the two departments.
To further strengthen academic exchanges, a joint seed fund program was launched in September 2024. The first round of project proposals is currently under evaluation. Both departments plan to organize regular joint workshops to promote closer communication among faculty members and cultivate future partnerships.
This milestone event marks a significant step forward in enhancing research and educational cooperation between Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland. With the continued engagement and support of scholars and students from both THU EE and HKU EEE, the workshop is expected to pave the way for future collaborations and advancements in the field of electronic engineering.
