Digital images and videos are now everywhere, driving research toward enhanced visual quality and user experience. The next challenge is achieving hyper-realistic and immersive imaging that can faithfully represent the physical world. While the human visual system perceives rich color, brightness, and depth, current imaging technologies remain limited. This talk presents recent advances in hyper-realistic imaging, focusing on two topics: learning-based point cloud compression and quality assessment for unstructured 3D data, and high dynamic range imaging using tone mapping operators (TMO) guided by semantic and contextual cues—mimicking how expert photographers enhance visual perception.
演讲嘉宾介绍
Dr. Frédéric Dufaux is a CNRS Research Director at Université Paris-Saclay and IEEE Fellow. He received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from EPFL, Switzerland, and has over 30 years of research experience spanning academia and industry, including EPFL, MIT, and Compaq. His research focuses on image and video coding, 3D video, HDR imaging, and visual quality assessment. He has published over 250 papers, 25 patents, and is listed among the “World’s Top 2% Scientists.” He is IEEE SPS Vice President (Technical Directions), served as Editor-in-Chief of Signal Processing: Image Communication, and received the EURASIP Meritorious Service Award in 2022.
