GaN MMIC RF Front-End Design for Satellite and Synthetic Aperture Radar Applications

演讲内容简介

This talk discusses radio frequency (RF) front-end module (FEM) architectures for Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) in Earth observation applications and in satellite communications. It outlines the evolution of FEM architectures in response to recent advances in Gallium Nitride (GaN) Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit (MMIC) technology, which offers high power density, rapid switching, and superior thermal conductivity. These characteristics enable the development of high-efficiency, small form-factor power amplifiers, low-noise amplifiers resilient to overdrive, and linear high-power switches. It discusses the main challenges encountered when designing such FEMs and presents a step-by-step design methodology for fully integrated FEMs to achieve RF performance targets while meeting mechanical, thermal, and long-term reliability requirements, and ensuring suitability and scalability for large-scale phased-array transceivers in space applications.

演讲嘉宾介绍

Fadhel M. Ghannouchi (Life Fellow, IEEE) is a professor and former Alberta Innovates/Canada Research Chair, as well as the Director of the iRadio Laboratory in the Department of Electrical and Software Engineering at the University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Génie Électrique at École Polytechnique de Montréal and as an invited Distinguished Professor in the Department of Electronics Engineering at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China.
