Doctoral Student Zhao Peng Supervised by Associate Professor Feng Xue Won the ACP2018 Best Paper Award

Asia Communications and Photonics Conference (ACP), as an academic conference with the highest international recognition and the largest scale in the optical communications, optoelectronics and other related fields in Asia, has been held for 17 consecutive sessions since 2001. Jointly sponsored by Zhejiang University and China Jiliang University, ACP 2018 was held on October 26-29, 2018 in Hangzhou, attracting over 600 people from 36 countries and regions to participate. It was jointly supported by the Optical Society of America (OSA), the International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Photonics Society (IEEE Photonics Society), the Chinese Optical Society (COS) and China Institute of Communications (CIC) and other international organizations.

The paper "High-dimensional linear operation for phase-coherent spatial modes" of doctoral student Zhao Peng supervised by Associate Professor Feng Xue from the research group of Professor Huang Yidong, the Department of Electronic Engineering, Tsinghua University, won the highest award of the conference - - Best Paper Award. This award only selected 4 award-winning papers from a total of 576 academic papers included by the conference, and Associate Professor Zhang Wei was the co-author.

The operation and control of high-dimensional optical states has always been an important research area in the information optoelectronics field. This paper proposed a new plan of high-dimensional photon linear transformation based on spatial coherent state, and realized 24-dimensional arbitrary matrix transformation experimentally, with the matrix dimension 4 times that of the previous record. The high-dimensional photon linear transformation has wide and important applications in the fields such as optical communications, optical computing, and quantum computing. This paper provides a new way to make breakthroughs in related fields.
