Vice President Wang Xiqin, Deputy Director Zhang Guanglian, Academician Zhou Bingkun, Honorary Director of the Academic Committee of the Center, Director Academician Zhu Shining, Academician Atwater from the International Advisory Committee of the Center, and Professor Ning Cunzheng, Director of the Center, jointly unveiled the Tsinghua International Center for Nano-optoelectronics, and Vice President Wang Xiqin, Chair of the Department of Electronic Engineering Huang Yidong and Deputy Party Committee Secretary of the Department of Physics Xue Ping presented the letter of appointment to members of the International Advisory Committee and Academic Committee of the Center present.

Vice President Wang Xiqin, Director and Deputy Director of the Center Professor Ning Cunzheng, Professor Huang Yidong and Professor Xue Ping present the letter of appointment to members of the International Advisory Committee and Academic Committee of the Center present.

Professor Ning Cunzheng, Director of the Center, makes a report titled "challenges and opportunities of nano-optoelectronics".
Professor Ning Cunzheng, Director of the Center, introduced the background for the establishment of the center. He firstly thanked leaders at all levels of Tsinghua University, the Department of Electronic Engineering and the Department of Physics for their vigorous support of the research on nano-optoelectronics and the preparation of the center in recent years, and introduced the great significance of nano-optoelectronics in many technical fields, especially the importance of nano-optoelectronic chips to the transmission of mass information such as big data, 5G communications, AI, and supercomputers in the future. Professor Ning then introduced that the optoelectronics is confronted with three challenges at present, including device miniaturization and low energy consumption, light wavelength and diversification of material energy gap as well as optoelectronic integration, and analyzed the advantages and solutions of nano-optoelectronics. He finally emphasized the original innovation model to be adopted by Tsinghua International Center for Nano-optoelectronics in the future, that is, starting from new physical principles and phenomena to conduct original research.

Professor Yablonovitch from University of California, Berkeley makes an academic report.

Professor Arakawa from University of Tokyo, Japan makes an academic report.
In the academic report on nano-optoelectronics subsequently, Professor Eli Yablonovitch from University of California, Berkeley, the United States, and Professor Yasuhiko Arakawa from University of Tokyo, Japan, respectively made reports on the Impact of Physics on Technology and Evolution of Quantum Dots: From Science to Practical Implementation. The two world-famous experts respectively talked about how they studied and invented original new devices through the basic physical phenomena and how they successfully industrialized their own creations and inventions finally.
After the unveiling ceremony, teachers and members of the International Advisory Committee and the Academic Committee of the center reported and introduced the research directions and progress. The experts fully affirmed the existing advantages of the center in the nano-optoelectronics field and put forward constructive opinions and suggestions on the future development of the center.
The establishment of the center represents the strategic deployment of Tsinghua University in this important research field. The center will focus on our own country, take a broad view of the international frontiers and the future of optoelectronics, continue to promote the basic research and application technology development and build itself into a research center with international influence to lead the development of the nano-optoelectronics field.
