The Department of Electronic Engineering Held an Emergency Drill for Toxic Gas Leak Accident

On the afternoon of September 28, the Department of Electronic Engineering held an emergency drill for toxic gas leak accident in the Integrated Optoelectronics Laboratory of the Rohm Building. This drill aimed to test the capabilities of laboratory personnel to quickly, effectively and orderly implement emergency reactions such as alarm, communication, disposal, evacuation, rescue, and recovery, test their linkage with the property and strengthen their safety and emergency response consciousness and improve their capabilities to cope with laboratory safety accidents. Deng Beixing, Deputy Chair of the Department served as the chief commander of this drill, Mr. Lin Xuping and Mr. Li Kuan from the Laboratory Management Office guided the whole process, and a total of about 50 people including teachers and postgraduates of the Integrated Optoelectronics Laboratory and the property of Rohm Building participated in it.

At 2 p.m. on September 28, with the sound of the audible and visible alarm of the ammonia gas leak monitoring system, the emergency drill kicked off. After the experimental personnel in the laboratory quickly carried out emergency disposals to the equipment they used, they evacuated to the designated safety area orderly and quickly. Meanwhile, the equipment users reported the happening of the accident and the faint of personnel to the on-site commander. The on-site commander reported the gas leak situation to the chief commander immediately and requested instructions. Subsequently, the emergency communications, emergency rescue and emergency disposal were carried out orderly. After the disposal of the ammonia leak, the experimental personnel returned to their posts and continued the subsequent research.

In the subsequent comment part, Mr. Lin Xuping affirmed the organization level of the emergency drill activity and the enthusiastic participation of everyone and emphasized that the safety concept should be further changed from "I am required to be safe" to "I want to be safe"; Mr. Deng Beixing asked everyone to take this activity as an opportunity to further enhance their safety awareness and prevent safety accidents.

The activity is an important part of the "Safety Culture Month of the Laboratory".
