    Doctoral Student Wu Chuhan of the Department of Electronic Engineering Won 2019 Microsoft Research Asia Fellowship

    In the 2019 Microsoft Research Asia Fellowship selection, doctoral student Wu Chuhan of the Department of Electronic Engineering, Tsinghua University, was successfully selected. At the 2019 "Cooperative Innovation · Research" Annual Seminar held at the Microsoft Asia Research Institute from November 7 to 8, 2019, Dr. Hsiao-Wuen Hon, President of Microsoft Research Asia, welcomed the scholars from the Asia-Pacific region who came to the conference, and Introduced the latest research breakthroughs of the Asian Research Institute, and shared the relevant achievements of the Microsoft Research Asia in the fields of academic cooperation, talent training, and D&I activities. Then the 2019 "Microsoft Research Asia" Scholarship Award Ceremony was successfully held. Wu Chuhan and 11 other prize winners accepted the award from Dr. Hsiao-Wuen Hon, Global Senior Vice President of Microsoft, Chairman of Microsoft Asia-Pacific R&D Group and President of Microsoft Research Asia.

    The selection activity this year attracted the applications of over one hundred doctoral students from 31 well-known colleges and universities and research institutes in places such as Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore. After the strict assessment and review of the jury, a total of 12 excellent doctoral students in the computer field stood out and became the new "Microsoft Fellows" in 2019, winning the cash awards of USD 10,000 from Microsoft Research Asia and a 3-month academic visit opportunity.

    Wu Chuhan studied in the New Generation Internet Laboratory of the Department of Electronic Engineering and studied for his doctorate under the guidance of Professor Huang Yongfeng. His main research direction is user modeling and recommendation system, and his long-term research goal is to design accurate user modeling and personalized recommendation methods that protect users' privacy. His phased research results related to the user modeling and recommendation system have been published in international academic conferences such as ACL, KDD, IJCAI, EMNLP, WSDM, CIKM, NAACL, and academic journals such as KBS.

    In the selection of previous years, Xu Fengli and Qin Tao from the Department of Electronic Engineering also received the Microsoft Research Asia Scholarship in 2018 and 2006 respectively.
